    Chris KONRAD

Chris KONRAD was a local merchant in Lacona. Members of the Lacona Saint Mary of the Assumption met in the KONRAD home for worship services until their new church became ready for use. He was also one of the first parish trustees. (Source: The Catholic Church At Lacona, written by the Rev. Declan DOWER, copied from the History of Warren County, Iowa, by Gerard SCHULTZ and Don L. BERRY, The Record and Tribune Company, Indianola, Iowa, 1953, pages 119-151.)

Blacksmith Chris KONRAD came to Lacona in 1876. He had been born in Germany. His blacksmith and wagon factory were completed in 1885. In 1900 he bought Frank SHUPE’s creamery just north of city limits. He ceased active blacksmith work in 1913 and became the Lacona postmaster.
