    Joseph T. and Emily LACY moved into the White Breast Township in May of 1854. They bought several hundred acres one mile west of Lacona and christened all surrounding territory “Lacona Prairie”. Joseph had been born in Durham, Canada of English ancestry. He was educated at Hanover and Lebanon Liberal Institute in New Hampshire where he taught school until becoming a lawyer. Emily had been educated at Marietta College, Ohio.
