Lacona Ledger newspaper, Friday, June 29, 1917, front page, left column: "Jacob Solomon MILLER was born January 14, 1861, in Warren County where he has resided all his life. He died at his home in Lacona, June 20, 1914 at the age of 56 years, 5 months, 6 days. He was married to Eliza NEEDLES, August 18, 1886. To this union were born five children: Gene, Miles N., Mae, and Junie of Lacona and William H. of South Dakota, who are left to mourn his loss, a step daughter, Mrs. Carrie KEITH of Kansas City. His wife died April 25, 1904, leaving the five children, the oldest one being fifteen years old and the youngest girl eight, which Mr. MILLER cared for until they grew to manhood and womanhood. He had been ailing for more than a year and was patient through it all. He was a loving father, a kind neighbor and will be missed by all. The funeral services were held at the M.E. [Methodist Episcopal] church, conducted by C.J. HENDERSON of Dallas Center, Iowa. Interment was made in Shupe cemetery by the side of his wife."

Death Records of Warren County, Iowa, 1906-1918, p. 185: "Jacob S. MILLER, was born in Ohio on January 14, 1861 and died on June 20, 1917. He died of facial epethelioma (antrum). Jacob was a widower and his occupation was merchant. His father was Nathan MILLER and his mother's maiden name was Elzina SHUPE."
