    New Virginia Broadhorn Church

New Virginia Broadhorn Church, 1912 Roosevelt St., New Virginia, IA 50210

History of the New Virginia Broadhorn Church is copied from “Data on Warren County Churches” at the State Historical Society of Iowa, Des Moines, IA, film # War-56 (LDS film # 1034022)

Broadhorn church is located in Virginia Township of Warren County, Iowa, one-half mile east and one-half mile north of the Truro exit off Interstate 35 highway. In the past years it has been Baptist, later on a Methodist Circuit, at present [1978] it is an Independent church.

The church was organized in the Stony Point School house, where they met before purchasing a Baptist church in Madison County about two miles west of the present church. They were making ready to move it to the present location in Warren County when it was struck by lightning and burned. In order to collect the insurance, the new church had to take the name of the old church of Madison County, which had been named “Ohio Baptist Church.’ So, the present church was built in Warren County and given that name, later changing it to Broadhorn.
