Jacob was born near Kewanee, Illinois. He moved with his parents to Warren County, Iowa. His mother, Martha died April 19, 1866 when Jacob was twelve. He married Emma J. MILLER who died three years later.Jacob neaver married again, but lived with his brother, Matthew, and later took care of his father.
